A seed catcher tray is one of those quiet upgrades that improves three things with one fitting. First, the mess: feeding birds are enthusiastic and imprecise, and a tray beneath the feeder catches the shower of husks and dropped kernels before it carpets your patio or seeds your lawn. Second, the wildlife you did not invite: food on the ground overnight is what draws rats to a garden, and a catcher keeps the ground bare. Will a seed tray fit my existing feeder?
Almost certainly - our catchers clamp to standard feeder bases or hang beneath on the same hook, and pole-mounted versions circle the pole below everything. No tools involved.
Does caught seed just rot in the tray?
No - the trays are perforated to drain rain straight through, and ground-feeding birds usually clear the catch daily. A weekly shake-out and rinse keeps everything sweet.
Do seed catchers help against rats?
Considerably. Rats come for food left on the ground overnight; a catcher intercepts spillage before it lands, which removes the attraction at source.
