The details

The pedestal bird bath is the centrepiece format for a reason. This one stands on a slender column with an ornate pierced base, topped by a fluted shell bowl in a weathered verdigris green that looks like it has stood in the garden for decades. Two cast bird figures perch on the rim, which real visitors seem to take as a recommendation.

The bowl is shallow with a gently sloping edge, the right depth for blackbirds to wallow and robins to sip. Set it in the open a couple of metres from cover, keep it topped up, and it becomes the busiest spot on the lawn in dry spells.
